Sarah hummed quietly, sorting through the team's equipment bag. The smell of freshly laundered jerseys and worn leather filled her nostrils. She’d always loved the organized chaos of pre-season. The sun streamed in the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She meticulously folded a stack of practice shirts, each crease crisp and clean.

Her stomach felt light. She'd made the team, of course. She’d known it since the tryouts. They'd become like family.

Coach Peterson had asked to see her, but it was just to review the upcoming schedule, she assumed. He probably just wanted to give her some pointers. The thought didn't phase her. She smiled, feeling the familiar warmth of contentment fill her chest. Her steps were slow and deliberate as she headed towards the office.
